January Down

I've made it a whole month without sugar!!!!! Woohoooo!

Let's take a look back, shall we?

Since I've stopped eating sugar I've lost 7 lbs and 3" off my waist.  My waist is now under 35" which means I'm healthier.  I'm also within my healthy weight range and wearing my pre-pregnancy clothes.  I also haven't had a headache since my initial detox period.  Since I'm not eating sugar my kids are eating a lot less sugar which means I hardly ever need to ask them to clean their faces.  This in turn is keeping our wipe consumption to a minimum.  My children are also willing to try more foods because they are looking for a sugar fix.  Since they are trying more foods they are deciding they like more foods than they thought they did.  Today Super Jack peeled a banana and wanted me to cut off the bad spots.  I was holding Bumbles who was fussy so I explained they are sugar spots and they are just sweeter.  He looked at his banana with a inquisitive face, shrugged his shoulder and started eating.  Not bad for one month.

Today was also Bumbles 8 month birthday.  I thought of this when I was sitting in the boys room helping Bumbles play with a toy cake.  We sang Happy Birthday.  This became the theme of the kids play today.  Who knew it was Super Jack's puppy's birthday today too.
Sweets is so good at playing.
Look at that spread.

We'll see how February goes.  I'm a little nervous for Ground Hog Day because that is one of our donut holidays.  You might recall from earlier posts that my sister sent me a donut mix and a mini donut pan to make them in.  We will be making donuts on February 2nd.  Wish me luck.

My mother will also be coming next week for a visit!!!!!  I'm sooo excited!  I will be using her mad skills to help me put up curtains and start my awesome project that I have been planning for 10 year.  While she is here we will also be celebrating Sweet's 7th Birthday, which is on Valentine's Day (that is why she is so sweet).  Sweets is so excited and has been planning for weeks.  She has said something about Chocolate Mint Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookies and Ice Cream.  I told her to keep thinking about it and decide which ones she really wants.  Here's hoping she doesn't pick Chocolate Chip Cookies because that could bring me down.  Usually I get this for Valentine's Day.

See's Candies 1 lb. Nuts & Chews
Reid Harris I really think your wife would LOVE a box of these!

Actually, I don't get that exactly.  What I REALLY love is a 1 lb box of marzipan from See's Candy.  I won't be getting one of those this year.  Even if I was eating sugar I wouldn't because it would cost a million dollars to ship to Albania.  Must put marzipan on my list of things I can't live without.

Albania: Things are not calming down here.  The two parties are still pointing fingers and using angry rhetoric.  We are pretty sure the Socialist are planning another protest this Friday.  Keep praying for Albania.

  1. Way to go, Angela! One month down. You can totally do this. My parents often get us each a box of See's Candy for Christmas, and I have a lot/hate relationship with that box of chocolate. It's usually eaten within a few short days but I feel really guilty the whole time I'm chowing down on them.

Have you ever tried freezing red grapes and then eating them frozen like that? If you can get good red grapes there in Albania, it's a delicious fruity snack--especially in the hot summer.

  2. My junkfood fast is almost over! I decided to avoid all junkfood, including fries and sodas from Jan 2 to Feb 2. I did a pretty good job, except Friday I forgot about the no fries part and ate some cheese fries when we went out to dinner. I'm thinking about maintaining my ban on soda and fries; I can definitely live without them.

  3. Joanna, we can get red grapes and yes I've tried it.

Shauna, Way to go!!!! Why didn't you tell me earlier that you were doing that? I, of course, am not drinking soda. I'm not really a big fan anyway. I've also committed to no junk food. I didn't want to replace one bad habit with another one. If you can believe it, I've gotten Andi to swear off soda too. WE call it Wimpy Juice.
